Creatives Tuesdays: DIY Paper Towel Flowers

Hello sweeties! It has been whirlwind few weeks here in SA. So many things to do here! Anyways back for this week's DIYCreatives, we want to share with you on how to make the world’s cheapest party decoration ever... – paper towel flowers! With the rise of DIY makers our there, we thought would it be awesome to make a pretty of these paper towels absorbed with some food coloring of the table. Who knews a such a simple yet brilliant idea! With a bit of extra water, the color of the paper towels will just flow gorgeously, just like watercolors!. So, imagine more bits in big quantity? Ooohh nice right?  So, thanks to The Sweetest Occasion Hank & Hunt for creating this pretty little flowers that can be used on all kinds of projects. Ready?

Supplies you need -
  • plain paper towels
  • food coloring
  • water
  • jars
  • parchment paper
  • hot glue gun

Step 1

First, fill jam jars with water and add food coloring to tint. Take sheets of paper towels and tear gently into strips. Used the edge of the kitchen counter to have the 'strip look'. Then Tear each sheet into four strips. Fold each strip and dip the edge in the water ever so lightly. As the paper towel is absorbent, so as it dries it will suck up the color.
After a few, you will get the hang of it. We topped our dining room table with parchment paper. Lay out each sheet flat on the table. Let it dry overnight. Note: If you are only making a few, you can dry them with a hairdryer, but just be extra careful not to get the color on anything and hold them down so they don’t blow a way and land on the carpet.. and may stained the carpet...oops

Step 2

Next, to make a flower, (refer above pic)run a very thin bead of hot glue down the white edge of a strip and add a second strip, forming two layers, then scrunch forming a ruffle. Run another thin bead of glue, fold in half and scrunch that edge together to form a flower. Use extra spots of glue to help stick together if necessary. From there, turn these lovelies into garland by stringing them together with a needle and fishing line. Or, use Glue Dots or hot glue to attach to a wreath form.

You can also hot glue together a few flowers and decorate a package.

Whatever that your fancy, the best part these are cheap, peppy and really pretty! We loooove the part that we can these any color our heart desires ... yes... any color! Enjoy!
